There are many different types of air filters that can clean these smaller particles from the air, and they can be installed in your central forced air heating and cooling (HVAC) system to provide filtration for commercial buildings,hospitals and indoor facilties.
High-efficiency air filters greatly reduce the number of airborne particles when compared to the standard 1-inch thick filter installed on most central HVAC systems. Some high-efficiency models can even filter out tobacco smoke, airborne bacteria and allergens to some extent. Whole house filters are usually placed in the return duct line adjacent to the air handler for easy installation and maintenance. The air handler pulls air through the return ducts, and consequently through the filter. The air-filtration method can vary, and sometimes different methods are combined into a hybrid system.

Gas-Phase air filters have been in use for over three decades and these specialty air filtration products scrub mal-odorous, corrosive, harmful and toxic gases from airstreams.
Gas phase filter is a relatively new and complex field, which is neither mechanical nor electric but these filters effectively remove gases and associated odors. The basic mechanism about these filters is that this unit is equipped with a chemical filter designed to remove pollutant gases from the air.
Two types of gas phase capture and control are physical adsorption and absorption (also called chemisorption). Both are used for removing certain solvent vapors, odors, and low concentrations of gases and vapors in indoor air. Physical adsorption results from the electrostatic interaction between a molecule of gas or vapor and a surface. Solid adsorbents such as activated charcoal and several other materials such as silica gel, activated alumina, zeolites, porous clay minerals, and molecular sieves are useful as adsorbents due to their large internal surface area, stability, and low cost.
